Katherine's Dr Who blog

Hi everyone,

Sorry it’s been a while since I last blogged, I’ve been really busy performing my live summer dates across the UK. It’s been a magical summer thanks to this fantastic weather. The sunshine always makes these outdoor performances so much more special. Performing in Llangollen at the International Eisteddfod event was a particularly special occasion for me. I haven’t performed there since the beginning of my career. It was so good to go back and say thanks to everyone who has supported me from the early days.

I also performed at a private wedding in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which was just spectacular.

I celebrated my 30th birthday recently too. I had a wonderful weekend with family and friends staying at a beautiful manor house in the countryside. There were lots of presents and surprises; I was a very lucky girl. It’s great to hit 30 and be thoroughly happy with your lot. If the next ten years are as great as the last, I will be a very happy lady.

As I’m sure you will have heard by now, I’m set to be in the Doctor Who Christmas Special! I’ve never acted before in my life so was really nervous at the audition. I was absolutely blown away when I was told I had got the job! Talk about the icing on my 30th birthday cake! The weird thing was that after my audition, and during my birthday stay at the manor house, I bumped into Dr Who aka Matt Smith, he was staying at the same place as me. Talk about an omen! Since getting the job I’ve been so busy filming but it’s been an incredible learning experience and such an honour to be part of something so iconic. I’m absolutely sworn to secrecy and can’t give anything away about my character, but I will say I look great in a Dalek costume, hahaha. You’re in for a treat this Christmas!

I attended the Cartier International Polo day recently. You might have seen some funny pictures on the Daily Mail website. I laughed when I saw them as they suggested I was drunk, but I was actually the sober one! Haha. I’d spent the day in Prince Charles’ box where there was no alcohol being served at all. Then afterwards I went down to meet my friends, completely stone cold sober, headed to the bar for a my first drink of the day and that’s when they got the pic! Oh well, it was a lovely day and I was very honoured to chat to Prince Charles about the interesting work he does. It was also lovely to talk to the troops who had been invited along.

My friend and I arriving at the Polo.

Hope everyone is well. Take care and speak soon.

Love,
Katherine x
